RALEIGH, N.C. – At a winter 2016 board meeting, The John William Pope Foundation awarded $2.3 million in grants, with just over $2 million going directly to nonprofits in the Triangle. A total of 72 organizations received grants. Additional grants were made to organizations in Vance County. Vance County is home to Variety Wholesalers, owned and operated by the Pope family. The Pope Foundation makes grants twice a year, in the spring and in the winter. Applications are accepted year-round. The Pope Foundation works to improve the well being of citizens in North Carolina and the nation through the advancement of individual freedom and personal responsibility. From its first grant in 1986 to the present, the Foundation’s giving has totaled more than $100 million.
