Pope Foundation’s David Stover Joins TFAS Board of Directors

This week, The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) announced that David Stover was recently named to their board of directors.  Stover has been a longtime friend of the Pope Foundation and has served on the Foundation’s board for over 10 years.  Based in Washington, D.C., TFAS has been providing critical training to young leaders since 1967.  Their stated mission is to teach “principles of limited government, free-market economics and honorable leadership to students and young professionals in America and around the world.”  The release announcing Stover’s TFAS appointment is below.

TFAS Welcomes Dedicated Alumni to Board of Trustees

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) is pleased to announce the election of TFAS alumni John Lee (ICPES 85) and David M. Stover (ICPES 77) to its Board of Trustees.

“The addition of David Stover and John Lee to the TFAS Board of Trustees adds two people with a keen understanding of our programs and deep commitment to our mission of preparing young people for leadership,” said TFAS President Roger Ream (ICPES 76). “They will strengthen the TFAS board through their active participation in the governance of the organization.”

In addition to their roles as dedicated TFAS alumni leaders and supporters, both gentleman have forged successful professional careers, solidifying their strong representation of the ever-continuing TFAS journey.

John Lee (ICPES 85) is managing director at Northern Trust where he oversees one of two wealth management teams dedicated to serving high net worth individuals and their families. Prior to joining Northern Trust, Lee was a managing director at Brown Brothers Harriman where he was co-head of the New York based wealth management team.

Lee graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and is a graduate of The Leadership for Extraordinary Performance Executive Program at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Lee has served TFAS in many roles over the years, including as chairman of the TFAS Alumni Council and as vice chairman of the TFAS Board of Regents. He is currently a board member for TFAS partner organization, the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE).

David M. Stover (ICPES 77) has served in several business and government leadership roles including on the board of directors for Variety Wholesalers, as a senior marketing representative at Xerox Corporation, and assistant secretary for the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Stover graduated from Wake Forest University with an MBA and from the University of Richmond with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Stover has served on the John William Pope Foundation Board of Directors since 2006 and on the John Locke Foundation Board since 1989. He has also served on the Governor’s Small Business Council and on the North Carolina Economic Future Commission. In addition to his roles at the Pope Foundation and Locke Foundation, Stover serves on the Golden LEAF Foundation Board of Directors as former Governor McCrory’s appointee and Asheville School’s Board of Trustees.

Both alumni of the TFAS Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems, Lee and Stover bring a unique perspective and commitment to the TFAS mission of developing leaders for a free society.

The two join a long tradition of TFAS alumni serving as TFAS board members. Thanks to the edition of Lee and Stover, there are now 20 loyal alumni who currently serve on the TFAS Board of Trustees and Board of Regents, as well as many others who serve on the TFAS Alumni Council and advisory boards for our programs.
