The John William Pope Foundation makes grants to improve the well-being of North Carolinians by advancing the ideas of limited government, individual freedom, personal responsibility, and strong communities.
This mission was personal to founders John William and Joyce W. Pope. Both grew up in rural North Carolina and fully appreciated the opportunities afforded to them through education and the free enterprise system. They passionately hoped that future generations would have the same opportunities they did.
The Foundation approaches this meaningful work in two ways: through grants that have lasting implications for a free and prosperous society and grants that meet immediate societal needs. This approach is about people – enriching lives while strengthening opportunities for future well-being.
